Luxury Vinyl Plank in the Tulsa Metro

Installed by Our Own Crew, Start to Finish

Luxury vinyl plank is the most requested floor we install in the Tulsa metro, and for good reason. It gives you the look of wood with a sealed wear layer and a rigid core that shrugs off spilled drinks, tracked in rain, and dog nails. For kitchens, entryways, laundry rooms, and finished basements it solves the problem hardwood cannot.

The plank itself is only half the job. We check subfloor flatness and moisture before anything gets laid, because a rigid core plank telegraphs every dip and high spot underneath it. We correct what needs correcting, run the layout so seams fall away from the main sight lines, then finish the baseboards and transitions so the floor looks built in rather than dropped on top. How It Is Built

What Luxury Vinyl Plank Is Actually Made Of

Almost every question about LVP comes down to two of these four layers: the wear layer, which decides how long it looks new, and the core, which decides how it feels and how it handles an imperfect subfloor. Nobody selling you flooring should skip past either one.

  1. Wear layer6 to 28 mil

A clear coat over the print. This is the layer that takes the scratches, and its thickness is the single best predictor of how long the floor keeps looking new.

  2. Print layerPhotographic

A high resolution image of real wood. Better products use more unique plank images, so the same knot does not repeat every few boards.

  3. Rigid coreSPC or WPC

The body of the plank, and what makes it waterproof. Stone based cores feel firm and bridge subfloor variation. Wood based cores feel softer and quieter.

  4. Backing / padAttached or separate

Cushioning and sound control underneath. Attached pad is convenient, but a separate underlayment usually performs better, especially over concrete.

The Number That Actually Matters

How to Read a Wear Layer Rating

This is the number to ask about, and the one showroom tags most often bury. It is measured in mil, which is one thousandth of an inch.

6 mil

Rentals, flips, light use bedrooms

Cheapest option on the shelf. Fine for a unit you are turning over, not for a family kitchen.

12 mil

Normal residential traffic

The sensible floor for bedrooms, offices, and low traffic living rooms.

20 mil Recommended

Kitchens, entries, pets, kids

Where we point most Tulsa homeowners. The step from 12 to 20 mil costs less than most people expect.

28 mil +

Light commercial, very heavy use

More than a house needs unless you are running a home business out of the space.

A thicker plank does not mean a tougher surface. A 8mm plank with a 6 mil wear layer will show wear long before a 5mm plank with a 20 mil wear layer.

Choosing a Core

SPC or WPC: Which Core Do You Want

Both are waterproof. The difference is how the floor feels underfoot and how much subfloor imperfection it can hide.

Firmer and more stable

SPC (stone polymer core)

Strengths

  • Denser, so it resists dents from furniture legs and appliance rollers
  • Bridges minor subfloor variation better
  • Slightly thinner, which helps at existing door heights
  • Usually the lower cost of the two

Trade offs

  • Harder and colder underfoot
  • Carries more sound, so footsteps are louder

Best for: Older or slightly uneven subfloors, kitchens, entries, and rental turnovers.

Softer and quieter

WPC (wood polymer core)

Strengths

  • More give underfoot, noticeably more comfortable to stand on
  • Better sound absorption, which you notice upstairs
  • Warmer to walk on barefoot

Trade offs

  • Softer core dents more easily under heavy point loads
  • Costs a little more per square foot

Best for: Upstairs bedrooms and hallways, and anywhere you spend a lot of time standing.

Cross Shopping

Luxury Vinyl Plank vs Laminate

These two get cross shopped constantly, and the honest answer is that laminate wins on two things people care about. Here is the real split.

  Luxury Vinyl Plank Laminate
Water Waterproof core Swells if water sits in a seam
Scratch resistance Good Better at the same price
Cost per sq ft Higher Lower
Feel underfoot Warmer and quieter Firmer, can sound hollow
Wet rooms Yes No
Resale impression Reads as a real upgrade Reads as budget conscious

If the room can ever get wet, choose LVP and stop there. If it stays dry and you are covering a lot of square footage on a budget, laminate is genuinely the better value and we will tell you so.

The Honest Answer

So, Is Luxury Vinyl Plank Right for Your Home?

The honest summary: LVP is the most forgiving floor for a busy house. Water will not swell it, it handles pets and kids, it goes over concrete, and most installs are done in one to five days. What it will not do is get refinished. When it eventually wears out, it gets replaced rather than sanded back.

Choose LVP if

  • The room can get wet: kitchen, bath, laundry, mudroom, or basement
  • You have pets or young kids and want one floor throughout
  • You are installing over a concrete slab
  • You want a continuous run through the living areas with no thresholds
  • You want the job finished fast, with minimal disruption

Choose something else if

  • You want a floor you can sand and refinish in fifteen years. That is hardwood
  • Scratch resistance is your top priority and the room stays dry. Laminate rates better
  • The room takes hours of strong direct sun. Cheaper planks can expand or fade
  • You want maximum resale impact in a high end home. Real wood still reads differently

What We Handle

Luxury Vinyl Plank Work We Take On

SPC core plank

A dense stone polymer core that feels rigid underfoot and resists dents from furniture legs and appliance rollers. It is the safer pick over an uneven or older subfloor because it bridges minor variation better than a softer core.

WPC core plank

A wood polymer core with more give and better sound absorption. Homeowners notice the difference in upstairs bedrooms and hallways where footsteps carry. It costs a little more per square foot than SPC.

Kitchens and baths

The sealed wear layer and waterproof core mean a dishwasher leak is a cleanup, not a floor replacement. We run the plank under the toe kick line and seal the perimeter where it meets cabinetry.

Basements and slab on grade

Concrete slabs move moisture. We test before install and specify the right underlayment or moisture barrier rather than assuming the plank alone will handle it.

Whole floor continuity

Running one plank through the main living areas without thresholds makes a house feel larger. We plan the layout from the longest sight line so the run reads straight from the front door.

Stairs and transitions

Stair nosing and transitions are where cheap installs show. We match the nosing to the plank and cut transitions to the adjoining floor height instead of covering the gap with an oversized strip.

Our Luxury Vinyl Plank Process

From First Call to Final Walkthrough

  1. Free estimate

We measure every room, check subfloor flatness and moisture, and walk you through SPC and WPC options at different price points. You leave with a written line item quote and a realistic timeline.

  2. Material selection

We narrow it to planks that suit your rooms rather than whatever is on promotion, and say plainly where spending more changes the result.

  3. Prep

Furniture moved, old flooring out, dips and high spots corrected. This is the step that decides how the floor performs.

  4. Install

Planks laid to the planned layout with tight seams, correct expansion gaps, and clean cuts around vents, casings and cabinetry.

  5. Walkthrough

We check every room with you, handle touch ups, clean the site, and go over care so the wear layer lasts.

Luxury Vinyl Plank Questions

What Homeowners Ask Us Most

Is luxury vinyl plank really waterproof and where can it be used?
Yes. The SPC or WPC core and the sealed wear layer resist water, which makes LVP a strong choice for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, entryways, and basements. Standing water still needs to be cleaned up, but a spill or a leak will not swell the plank the way it would with laminate.
What is the difference between SPC and WPC cores?
SPC uses a stone polymer core and feels rigid and dense underfoot, which helps over subfloors that are not perfectly flat. WPC uses a wood polymer core that is softer, quieter, and warmer to walk on. We recommend one over the other based on your subfloor and which rooms are getting the floor.
How long does LVP installation take?
Most projects finish in one to five days depending on square footage, room count, subfloor prep, and trim work. We confirm a realistic timeline during your free estimate.
Do you handle subfloor prep and leveling?
Yes. We inspect and level as needed, address squeaks, add underlayment where appropriate, and make sure the surface is flat and stable before any plank goes down.
Do you serve Broken Arrow, Bixby, and Owasso?
Yes. We install across Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks, Glenpool, Sapulpa, Coweta, Sand Springs, Owasso, Inola, Pryor, Catoosa, Claremore, and the surrounding Tulsa metro. Call (918) 219-4848 if you do not see your city listed.
